How does simeticone work?

Simeticone is a so-called defoamer. In flatulence, the gases are often present in the gastrointestinal tract as fine bubbly foam. This makes normal absorption through the intestinal wall difficult or impossible. The gas bubbles cause feelings of pressure and pain. Simeticone reduces the surface tension of the gas bubbles, causing the foam to break down. The gas can now be absorbed by the intestinal wall and eliminated by intestinal peristalsis. The antifoaming effect lasts up to 24 hours. Simeticone acts exclusively physically and is excreted unchanged. Simeticone has no known side effects.

What is bentonite?
